Instructions for Patients Receiving Sedation
  1.  DO NOT eat solids for 6 hours prior to your procedure but you may have clear liquids up to 2 hours prior to your procedure.
  2. Unless specified by your Doctor, all medicines taken on a routine basis should be continued without interruption. Please swallow with a minimal amount of water within 2 hours of your appointment.
  3. Wear comfortable clothing. Do not wear tight-fitting or binding clothes and short sleeves. We use a special monitor on your index finger so acrylic nails and nail polish make it especially hard for readings.  Please be advised you might be asked to remove an acrylic nail and take off your nail polish. If possible have this done before you arrive.
  4. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment for necessary paperwork and payment.
  5. Empty your bladder immediately prior to your appointment.
  6. In your own interest and that of other patients, you should cancel any appointment if you develop any cold, flu, sore throat, or other illness.
  7. You must bring someone with you to take you home. You cannot drive a vehicle following your sedation.  A responsible adult, over 18 years of age, must accompany you to the office and remain here throughout the entire procedure. Please make sure your drive knows they must stay in the waiting area the ENTIRE duration of your surgery, YOU are responsible for them following the sedation. This responsible adult must escort the patient home, and a responsible adult should remain with the patient for the rest of the day or until the patient is fully awake.
  8. A parent or legal guardian must accompany a minor (persons under the age of 18 years of age).
  9. Following the sedation, patients should refrain from driving, engaging in any activity that requires alertness or making any legal decisions until the next day.
  10. As a courtesy to the patients in the waiting room we request all persons accompanying the patient refrain from eating or drinking. The patients are fasting for their surgeries and watching someone eat is inappropriate.

Failure to follow any of these instructions will result in cancellation of the sedation appointment
